A Short Note On International Classification Of Diseases...
The ICD-CM (International Classification of Diseases -Clinical Modification) system was implemented by the United States in the 1970ââ¬â¢s, although it was utilized by the world s healthcare community for over a century (Vines, Braceland, Rollins, Miller, 2008). ICD-10-CM system was initially designed for classifying and reporting diseases in all United States health care settings; it is a modified version of the World Health Organizations ICD-10. ICD-CM-10 was created to support current US health information needs. There are several differences in ICD-CM-9 and ICD-CM-10 versions. Since it was developed in the 1970s, the ICD-9-CM code set no longer fits with the needs of the 21st-century health care system. Consequently, reliance on outdated and imprecise ICD-9-CM information adversely impacts the value of healthcare data collection. Currently, ICD-9-CM code sets do not meet the necessary requirements to track, identify, and analyze new clinical services and treatments available for patients. In the ICD-10-CM system, medical conditions are grouped together, and the categories are alphanumeric; there are more diagnosis codes to choose from, thereby allowing more accuracy and detail when capturing healthcare data. ICD-10-CM code sets are more detailed and include severity of conditions, laterality, and complexity which allows for more precision and tracking of conditions. Operative codes now distinguish between intraoperative and post-operative problems.Show MoreRelatedOntologies Used In Paper-Omics705 Words à |à 3 Pageselectronic health records (EHR), along with other big data sources such as digital imaging, genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. The Importance Of A Pre Service Teacher Education Program...
A tremendous amount of money is spent on in-service training to give teachers the additional skills needed to successfully teach students with diverse needs. These resources could be directed elsewhere if teachers acquired this knowledge from their preservice training (Koonce, 2016). Pre-service teacher education (PSTE) programs are the first form of professional study that individuals complete to enter the teaching profession (ââ¬Å"Designing Effective Pre-Service Teacher Education Programs,â⬠n.d.). This training could present a module on inclusive education, or demonstrate how to best respond to special educational needs in the classroom. Teachers are increasingly faced with the challenge of teaching all different types of learners. There are many different views about what classroom teachers need to know so as to be prepared to work in inclusive classrooms. In order to be an effective teacher in an inclusive program, beginning teachers must be taught to understand and appre ciate diversity (Moore, 2015). They should be exposed to students who have different learning styles and disabilities. Teachers must also become comfortable with change and learn early in their preparation to be flexible and creative especially when solving problems (Moore, 2015). English Conjunctions Free Essays
Conjunctions A conjunction is a word which joins two sentences to complete their meaning. There are two kinds of conjunctions: 1. Co-ordinating Conjunctions: When the conjunction is used to join two statements of equal importance, the conjunction is said to be a co-ordinating conjunction. We will write a custom essay sample on English Conjunctions or any similar topic only for you Order Now Examples : and, but, or, not, for, either, neither 2. Subordinating Conjunctions: When the conjunction joins two statements, one of which depends on the other for its full meaning, the conjunction is said to be a subordinating conjunction. Examples : before, after, since, because, if, though, which, who A conjunction is a joiner, a word that connects (conjoins) parts of a sentence. There seem to be three basic types of conjunctions. They are:à coordinating conjunctionsà used to connect two independent clauses,à subordinating conjunctionsà used to establish the relationship between the dependent clause and the rest of the sentence, andà correlative conjunctionsà which always travel in pairs, joining various sentence elements that should be treated as grammatically equal. COORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS Coordinating conjunctions may join single words, or they may join groups of words, but they must always join similar elements: e. g. subject+subject, verb phrase+verb phrase, sentence+sentence. The seven coordinating conjunctions in English are: FOR ââ¬â is to introduce the reason for the preceding clause AND ââ¬â joins two similar ideas together NOR ââ¬â The conjunction nor is not extinct, but it is not used nearly as often as the other conjunctions. Its most common use is as the little brother in the correlative pair, neither-nor BUT ââ¬â joins two contrasting ideas together OR ââ¬â joins two alternative ideas YET ââ¬â is very similar to ââ¬Ëbutââ¬â¢ as it also joins two contrasting ideas together SO ââ¬â shows that the second idea is the result of the first An easy way to remember these six conjunctions is to think of the word FANBOYS. Each of the letters in this somewhat unlikely word is the first letter of one of the coordinating conjunctions. Among the coordinating conjunctions, the most common, of course, are AND, BUT and OR. SUBORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS A subordinating conjunction is a word which joins together a dependent clause and an independent clause. There are numerous subordinating conjunctions. The more commonly used ones are listed below. For a more comprehensive list seeà http://webster. commnet. edu/grammar/conjunctions. htm#nor BECAUSE, AS, SINCE ââ¬â are used to introduce the cause in a cause effect relationship between two ideas SO ââ¬â introduces an effect in a cause effect relationship between two ideas ALTHOUGH, (even) THOUGH, WHEREAS, WHILE ââ¬â are used to express contrast between ideas AFTER ââ¬â is used to show time Although documentation of the developmental order of the remaining subordinate conjunctions is missing, the best guess scenario would be: BECAUSE and SINCE, as they also introduce the cause in a cause-effect relationship SO would likely seem to follow as it introduces the effect in a cause-effect relationship ALTHOUGH, (even) THOUGH, WHEREAS, WHILE may follow next as they express the contrast between ideas AFTER which expresses time concepts COrrelative CONJUNCTIONS Some conjunctions combine with other words to form what are called correlative conjunctions. They always travel in pairs, joining various sentence elements that should be treated as grammatically equal. Here is a brief list of common correlative conjunctions. both . . . andnot only . . . but alsonot . . . buteither . . . orneither . . . norwhether . . . oras . . . as| Types of Conjunctions A conjunction is a word that links words, phrases, or clauses. There are three types of conjunctions:à coordinating conjunctions, correlative conjunctions, andà subordinating conjunctions. Coordinating Conjunctionsà may join single words, or they may join groups of words, but they must always join similar elements such as subject+subject, verb phrase+verb phrase, or sentence+sentence. When a coordinating conjunction is used to join elements, the element becomes a compound element. Examples:à and, but, or, yet, for, nor, so Correlative Conjunctionsà also connect sentence elements of the same kind, however, unlike coordinating conjunctions, correlative conjunctions are always used in pairs. Examples: both ââ¬â and not only ââ¬â but also not ââ¬â but ither ââ¬â or neither ââ¬â nor whether ââ¬â or as ââ¬â as Subordinating Conjunctions: These are the largest class of conjunctions. They connect subordinate clauses to a main clause. They are adverbs used as conjunctions. Examples: Time: after, before, since, when, while, until Reason: because, since, so that, why Place: where, wherever Condition: if, unless, until, in case Manner: as if, as t hough, how When we write, we use conjunctions to ââ¬Å"connect words, phrases, and clauses, showing the relationship between and among them,â⬠à as Schartonà and Neuleib describe (2001, p. 96). There are four types of conjunctions that writers can use. Letââ¬â¢s review each type as a way to reflect on the different kinds of relationships that conjunctions can be used to reveal. Coordinating Conjunctions Coordinating conjunctions should usedà when the elements have an equal relationship. Examples of coordinating conjunctions includeà for, and, nor, but, or, yet,à andà so. Ex. Hall does not deny that the early colonists were overwhelmingly Christian,à butà he does recognize that not everyone practiced his or her eligion with the same zeal and fervor that is generally assumed in Puritan communities. Note that with this type of conjunction, you are connecting two sentences (making a compound sentence). In order to prevent this compound sentence from being a run -on sentence, a comma must precede the coordinating conjunction. Correlative Conjunctions Correlative conjunctions are used in pairs and also connect equal elements. Examples of correlative conjunctions includeà eitherâ⬠¦or, whetherâ⬠¦or, not onlyâ⬠¦but also, bothâ⬠¦and,à andneitherâ⬠¦nor. Ex. It is another interesting phenomenon of history that any conflict within post-World War II Germany,à whetherà between the two Germanysà orà between two sets of Germans, often resulted in one sideââ¬â¢s claiming that the other used had fascist tactics. Subordinating Conjunctions Subordinating conjunctionsà are used to show the relationship of the subordinate clause (a group of related words that contains a subject and predicate but cannot stand alone) to the rest of the sentence. Examples of subordinating conjunctions includeà while, after, until, when, where, before, if, that, unless, because, although, though,à andà whether. Ex. Sherry walked to school this morning because her car battery was dead. Conjunctive Adverbs While they are not true conjunctions, conjunctive adverbs often function as conjunctions. They donââ¬â¢t show relationshipsà withinà a sentence, but rather show the relationship between two independent clauses (a complete sentence, or a group of related words that contain a subject, a predicate, and can stand alone). Examples of conjunctive adverbs includeà also, consequently, furthermore, however, indeed, instead, meanwhile, moreover, nonetheless, similarly, therefore, thus, besides, next, specifically,à andà subsequently. Ex. A first glance at his bibliography gives the appearance that the work may rely somewhat heavily on secondary source material;à however, a number of primary sources are also used, and it should be noted that the publication dates of the secondary source material range throughout the span of the study. Note that two complete sentences are connected. Therefore, a semicolon is needed. The semicolon shows that the two sentences are closely related and that the writer wants the two sentences to stay linked in the writerââ¬â¢s mind, while showing where one sentence ends and the next one begins. Notice also that a comma follows the conjunctive adverb. Test Your Knowledge| | Check your understanding by correcting the following sentences. Hint: Use the structure of the sentence as a guide to the relationship. Choose a conjunction or conjunctive adverb accordingly. 1. ___________ most of the work is a quantitative study proving the educational lag of Mexican American children, Carterââ¬â¢s work also pays significant attention to educational history. 2. Changes in party emphasis allowed for increasing segments of workers to join; however, dissent with Stalinââ¬â¢s policies was less tolerated; ___________ , many of these policies, particularly those of Stalin, were ambiguous due to the secretiveness and suspicion within the inner ranks. 3. At this time the existence of the relationship between science and religion produced a group of thinkers called Deists who believed that no knowledge could be held of a creator except his existence as necessary for natural law, _________ as in any group of theological thinkers, there were differences in perspectives on what this meant. . One provision allowed for the sale of public lands belonging to the perpetual school fund, the proceeds of which would _________ go directly to the public school fund ________ be distributed among the counties. Answers: 1. Whileà most of the work is a quantitative study proving the educational lag of Mexican American children, Carterââ¬â¢s work also pays si gnificant attention to educational history. The first part of this sentence is subordinate to the second part. Therefore, a subordinating conjunction would be used. Others that could work in this context would beà thoughà andà although. 2. Changes in party emphasis allowed for increasing segments of workers to join; however, dissent with Stalinââ¬â¢s policies was less tolerated;à furthermore, many of these policies, particularly those of Stalin, were ambiguous due to the secretiveness and suspicion within the inner ranks. Here the second sentence serves as an addition to another sentence, so a conjunctive adverb is needed. Because it is an addition,à furtherà andà furthermoreà are the best options. . At this time the existence of the relationship between science and religion produced a group of thinkers called Deists who believed that no knowledge could be held of a creator except his existence as necessary for natural law,à butà like any group of theological thinkers, there were differences in perspectives on what this meant. This sentence calls for a coordinating conjunction. Either of these sentences could work independ ent of each other. The wordà butà works best here because it shows contrast. 4. One provision allowed for the sale of public lands belonging to the perpetual school fund, the proceeds of which wouldà eitherà go directly to the public school fundà orà be distributed among the counties. Here the two blanks should have been the clue that a correlative conjunctions was required. They are the only ones used in pairs. | | What are conjunctions? Sure, theyââ¬â¢re joining words, but theyââ¬â¢re much more than that. Conjunctions are the words that decide the importance of the various other words in the sentence. Coordinating conjunctions, subordinating conjunctions, and correlative conjunctions each have their own purpose. * Definition Conjunctions are words that link other words, phrases, or clauses. There are three types of conjunctions: coordinating conjunctions, subordinating conjunctions, and correlative conjunctions. * Coordinating Conjunctions Coordinating conjunctions connect two words or groups of words with similar values. In other words, coordinating conjunctions may connect two words, two phrases, two independent clauses, or two dependent clauses. For example, in each of the following sentences, the coordinating conjunction ââ¬Å"andâ⬠connects equal words or groups of words: Connects two words:à John and Reggie stayed up all night practicing their guitars. Connects two phrases:à The squirrel scurried up the tree trunk and onto a low branch. Connects two clauses:à Several managers sat with their backs to us, and I could almost hear them snickering at us lowly workers. Ads by Google There are only seven coordinating conjunctions in the English language, and they are often remembered by using the acronym ââ¬Å"FANBOYSâ⬠: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so. * Subordinating Conjunctions Subordinating conjunctions connect two groups of words by making one into a subordinating clause. The subordinating clause acts as one huge adverb, answering the questions ââ¬Å"whenâ⬠or ââ¬Å"whyâ⬠about the main clause, or imposing conditions or opposition on it. Here are some examples of subordinating conjunctions changing a clause into adverbial subordinating clauses in different ways: * I can go shopping after I finish studying for my exam. (when) * Because the night was young, Gertrude decided to take a walk. (why) * Iââ¬â¢ll give you a dime if you give me a dollar. (condition) * Although he never figured out why, Hanna winked on her way out the door. (opposition) Note: The subordinating conjunction does not lways come between the two clauses it connects. Often, it comes at the beginning of the first clause. * Correlative Conjunctions Correlative conjunctions are always used in pairs. They are similar to coordinating conjunctions because they join sentence elements that are similar in importance. The following are some examples of coordinating conjunctions: Both, and:à Both Rodney and Xing made the varsity team this year. Neither, nor:à Neither Rodney nor Xing made the varsity team this year. Not only, but also:à Not only did Rodney make the varsity team, but he also become one of the strongest players. Remember these three types of conjunctions ââ¬â coordinate conjunctions, subordinate conjunctions, and correlative conjunctions ââ¬â and youââ¬â¢ve got one part of speech down pat. Aà conjunctionà connects two or moreà sentences,à clauses, or parts of clauses. Some of the most common conjunctions in English areà and, because,à but,à for,à nor,à so,à until,à when, andà yet. The two main types of conjunctions are coordinating conjunctions and subordinating conjunctions. There are also correlative conjunctions, copulative conjunctions, adversative conjunctions, disjunctive conjunctions, and final conjunctions. ââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬â- Coordinating conjunctions Aà coordinating conjunctionà is aà conjunctionà that links two words,à phrases,à clauses, orà sentencesà that are grammatically equivalent. The six words most commonly used as coordinating conjunctions can be remembered with the mnemonic device FANBOYSââ¬âfor,à and,à nor,à but,à or,à yet,à so. Letââ¬â¢s look at a few examples: We have a porcupineà andà a kangaroo. [Andà links two listed elements that are grammatically equivalent. ] You seeà yetà do not hear. [Yetà links two grammatically equivalent actions (seeà anddo not hear) performed byà you. ] We bathed the dog,à butà we couldnââ¬â¢t get him clean. Butà links two independent clauses. ] Coordinating correlative conjunctions Some correlative conjunctions (see below for full definition) can function as joint coordinating conjunctions. For example,à neitherà andà norà in this sentence introduce grammatically equal elements, so they work tog ether as coordinating conjunctions: Neither Joe nor John has any idea what heââ¬â¢s talking about. Coordinating conjunctions and commas For coordinating conjunctions,à commaà use depends on the nature of the linked elements. If a coordinating conjunction joins twoà independent clauses, it usually should be preceded by a comma (e. g. We bathed the dog, but we couldnââ¬â¢t get him clean). If a coordinating conjunction links two listed elements, it doesnââ¬â¢t need a comma (e. g. ,à We have a porcupineà andà a kangaroo). ââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬â- Subordinating conjunctions Aà subordinating conjunctionà is aà conjunctionà that links aà dependent clauseà (also known as a subordinate clause) to anà independent clauseââ¬âfor example: The city recommends everyone stay inside because the winds could be dangerous. In thisà sentence,à becauseà lin ks a dependent clause (because the winds could be dangerous) to the main clause (The city recommends everyone stay inside). We know thisà is subordinating becauseà because the winds could be dangerousà could not normally stand alone as a sentence. Here are some of the most common subordinating conjunctions: after albeit although as because before except if once since| that though unless until when whenever where whether while| Some phrases also function as subordinating conjunctions. Here are some of the most common ones: as if as far as as long as as well as even if even though| that inasmuch as in order to in order that so that such that| ââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬â- Other types Adversative conjunctions Adversative conjunctionsà (sometimes known as contrasting conjunctions) areà coordinating conjunctionsà used to express comparisons or contrasts. The element introduced by the adversative conjunction usually qualifies or expresses a caveat with regard to the mainà clauseà of theà sentence. The most common adversative clauses areà butà andà yet, butà still,à however,à albeit,à although, and others are also sometimes adversative. Letââ¬â¢s look at a few examples of adversative conjunctions: Heââ¬â¢s a shyà butà loving little boy. [Naples News] Here, theà phraseà but lovingà creates a contrast to what is expected from theà adjectiveà shy. It is a living part of my spiritual life,à yetà I donââ¬â¢t know if one would call me a religious artist. [Houston Chronicle] In this sentence, theà independent clauseà introduced byà yetà adds information to qualify what was expressed in the main clause. This technology,à althoughà not a foolproof way to monitor abusers, might give victims advance warning that danger is approaching. [Hartford Courant] And in this sentence, theà conjunctionà althoughà introduces information in contrast to the main clause. Correlative conjunctions Correlative conjunctionsà are two or moreà conjunctionsà used to link structurally identical parts of aà sentence. Here are the most common pairs of correlative conjunctions: eitherââ¬âor| bothââ¬âand| neitherââ¬ânor| not onlyââ¬âbut also| ifââ¬âthen| whetherââ¬âor| Elements linked by correlative conjunctions must have parallel grammatical construction. For example, this is technically incorrect (the conjunctions are underlined): Youââ¬â¢reà eitherà going to love his workà orà hate it. [Thousand Oaks Acorn] For such a construction to be correct, what followsà eitherà and what followsà orà must be syntactically equivalent. A diagram of this example sentence would look like, [Subject]à eitherà [auxiliary verb phrase] [verb] [object]à orà [verb] [object]. â⬠? The segment followingà eitherà has an element (the auxiliary verb phraseà going to) that the segment followingà orà doesnââ¬â¢t have, so the two segments are not parallel. There are two possibilities for correcting this sentence: Youââ¬â¢re going toà eitherà love his workà orà hate it. Eitherà youââ¬â¢re going to love his work,à orà youââ¬â¢re going to hate it. With sentences this short, correlative conjunctions are usually easy to use correctly. But using more complicated constructions involving correlatives such asà not onlyââ¬âbut alsoà andà ifà ââ¬âthencan be tricker. Hereââ¬â¢s another technically flawed use of correlative conjunctions: TTL Inc. s a socially responsible company that isà not onlyà known for innovations in engineeringà but alsoà for its widespread support of education. [UA News] Here, the verbà knownà should precedeà not only, as the phrase followingà but alsoà has no parallel verb. From the same article, hereââ¬â¢s an example of correct correlative conjunction use: TTLââ¬â¢s passion for advanced education is seenà not onlyà in the hours dedicated to volunteering and guest lecturing,à but alsoà through endowed scholarships for prospective engineers at The University of Alabama. Commas and correlative conjunctions . Use noà commaà when the parallel segments are in the sameà clauseââ¬âfor example: It was either really stupid or really brave. Our diversity is not only a challenge but also a gift. b. Use a comma when the two parallel phrases are in separate clausesââ¬âfor example: If thereââ¬â¢s a truly monumental disaster, then appoint the two last presidents to lend a hand. [WSJ] c. But even when two correlative conjunctions are in the same clause, itââ¬â¢s often acceptable to insert a comma before the second conjunction either to create a natural-sounding pause, or to prevent confusion. Copulative conjunctions Copulative conjunctionsà (also known as additive conjunctions) areà coordinating conjunctionsà used to denote addition. Theà conjunctionà indicates that the second word,à phrase,à clause, orà sentenceà contains an additional fact that is related to the earlier word, phrase, clause, or sentence. Some of the most common copulative conjunctions areà and,à also,à as well as,à moreover,à no less,à andà plus. Some copulative conjunctions may be used to start sentencesââ¬âfor example: My kangaroo can sing. Andà sheââ¬â¢s not too bad. Moreover, she won a Grammy last year. Plus, sheââ¬â¢s a pretty good dancer. In the last two sentences,à moreoverà andà plusà come close to becomingà adverbsà modifying the mainà verbsà of their sentences (wonà and the contractedà is). Such adverbial copulative conjunctions should be set off byà commas. Andà does not need to be set apart. Andà is the only copulative conjunction that can be used to introduce a secondà independent clauseà within a sentenceââ¬âfor example: We ate lunch, and we took a nap. Using any other copulative conjunction in place ofà andà would turn this into aà run-on sentence. Disjunctive conjunctions Disjunctive conjunctionsà areà conjunctionsà used to separate two or more mutually exclusive options presented in aà sentence. When a disjunctive conjunction is used, it usually indicates either that only one of the elements joined by the conjunctions is true, or that none of the elements are true. The conjunctions most commonly used disjunctively areà but,à either,à else,à neither, nor,à or, other, andà otherwise. Some disjunctive conjunctions areà coordinating conjunctionsââ¬âfor example, theà eitherà and theà orà in thisà sentence: Poetry is usually either cheap or free. Here,à eitherà andà orà indicate that poetry is usually one or the other (cheap or free) but not both. Disjunctive pronouns separate these options. Other disjunctive conjunctions donââ¬â¢t need to be coordinated. For example, theà orà in this sentence functions on its own: I might use papier-ma? che, or I might use some kind of wood. Theà orà separates two options, only one of which can be true. And in this sentence, theà neitherà and theà norà are used to indicate that neither option is true: Neither he nor his lawyer could be reached for comment. Final conjunctions Final conjunctionsà (also known as illative conjunctions) areà coordinating conjunctionsà used to introduceà clausesà orà phrasesà that draw inferences or conclusions from earlier ones. Some of the most common final conjunctions (some of which are phrases) areà as a consequence,à consequently,à for,à hence,à so,à so that,à so then,à thus, andà therefore. Some final conjunctions introduce phrases withinà sentences. For example, this sentence has two: In turn, this causes other asset prices to fall in those nations,à thusà worsening their banking systems, andà henceà leading to credit contraction and capital flight. NY Times] The phrase introduced byà henceà draws an inference from the phrase introduced byà thus, which in turn draws an inference from the main clause. Some final conjunctions introduce clauses within sentencesââ¬âfor example: Equalize the tax lawsà so thatà employer-provided health insurance and individually owned h ealth insurance have the same tax benefits. [Wall Street Journal] Here, the clause introduced byà so thatà infers what will occur should the action proposed in theà imperative-moodà main clause come to pass. A final conjunction may also be used to start a sentence that draws a conclusion from the preceding sentenceââ¬âfor example: Good writing is always about clarity and insight, precision and accuracy. Therefore, this confusing name calls into question the very quality of the writing instruction that will be given in the new department. [Inside Higher Ed] The second sentence, introduced by the final conjunctionà therefore, draws a conclusion from the first sentence. And hereââ¬â¢s one more example: Our current system provides individuals with little market power in the urchase of health insurance. As a result,à they typically pay exorbitant premiums. [The New Republic] Here, the sentence beginning withà as a resultà shows what the conditions described in the first sentence lead to. OUTLINE 1. Importance Of Yin
Importance Of Yin-Yang Essay This symbol, known as the Tai Chi Chu symbol, or Yin-Yang symbol has itsroots in ancient Chinese cosmology. The original meaning of yin andyang is representative of the mountainsboth the dark side and the brightside, or the contrasting shaded and sunlight slopes of the mountain. These twowords can possibly be traced back to the Shang and Chou Dynasty,(1550 1050BC). But most scholars credit the Yin and Yang to the Han Dynasty(206B.C.-A.D. 220). At this time, The Yin Yang School was founded by Tsou Yen. It combines the ancient philosophy of the 5 elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, water; and combined them into a cosmology of cyclical movements. The arrangementbetween the two poles forms a cycle of movement or the meaning of change. Inrelationship to the elements, wood and fire belong to the yang, and water andmeter to yin. Earth belongs to both yin and yang because it assists both. Theyin and yang only represent opposite poles NOT good or evil. You might ask whatrole the Yin and Yang play in everyday life. Well, as you can see, the Chinesepicked up on this many years ago. The ideas behind Yin and Yang developed byobserving the physical world. It was observed that nature appears to group intopairs mutually dependent opposites. For example, the concept of night has nomeaning without the concept of day. Americans picked up on the connection, butnever truly tried to name it. Yin and Yang are just opposites. I believethats were the saying, Opposites attract, originated from. Chinesebelie ved that in any situation, that without the positive and the negative therecould never be a whole. Because you want get a perfect fit. There are so manyexamples that can be explained, examples that have never truly been thoughtthrough or examined. For instance, a magnet has a South Pole and a North Pole. Putting two south sides or two north sides together is impossible, but if youput the north and south together, you form a whole. A joining together of theopposite poles. Another example would be a person riding a bicycle. If a personriding a bicycle wants to go somewhere he/she cannot pump on both pedals at thesame time or not pump on them at all. In order to go somewhere he/she has topump on one pedal and release the other. So the movement of going forwardrequires this oneness of pumping and releasing. This oneness ofthings is a characteristic of the Chinese mind. In the Chinese language, wordsare even looked on as a whole because their meanings are derived from eachother. For example, the Chinese character for good and the Chinesecharacter for not good, when combined together will reflect the quality ofsomething (whether good or not good). Likewise, the Chinese character for long and the Chinese character for short, when brought together meanlength. All these examples show us that everything has a complementarypart to form a whole. Without one it is impossible to have the other. Inclosing, I believe that most human beings live their life according to thesaying, Dont sweat the small stuff. Small stuff meaning things thatreally dont serve a purpose in everyday life. Daily we become even moreblinded by the big picture instead of seeing the beauty in things that wenormally dont care about. Being at one with yourself and your surroundingscould be a wonderful experience, but not many are willing to take that step.

Post Civil War free essay sample
While appearing to be some type of Mosses to the newly freed slaves, his intent was to appease and empower the Southern farmers and institute a real and equitable democracy in the South. Radical Republicans pushed him to include black suffrage. However, he was a strict constitutionalists who believed he had no power as president to unilaterally extend citizenship and suffrage. Although a firm nationalist, he also had a solid respect for states rights. His goal was for states to assume their full rights as soon as possible. Secondly there was a reconstruction going on in Congress as well.Congressional Republicans moved to the political left. Congress did not recognize southern representatives in DCE. 1865. Both houses formed a joint committee on Reconstruction to investigate whether any southern states deserved representation. Moderates wanted to solve a political problem, but Radicals wanted a social revolution. However, congress did decide to extend the rights and powers of the Freedmans Bureau, largely in response to the white Souths stubbornness and insubordination. We will write a custom essay sample on Post Civil War or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page With the election of Grant, Radical Republicans finally had an ally in the White House. In March of 1 870, the final Reconstruction amendment was ratified. The Fifteenth Amendment stated that no American could be denied the right to vote on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. Elections in the South in 1870 were regulated by federal troops stationed there. In these elections, thousands of Southern blacks voted for the first time; predictably, many Southern whites did not vote in these elections and viewed the entire process with disgust. In he 1870 elections, nearly 630 blacks were elected as representatives in Southern state legislatures. Sixteen blacks were elected to Congress, one to the United States Senate, and a black, P. B. S. Poinciana, was elected governor of Louisiana. It would be impossible to overstate the resentment with which many Southern whites viewed the entire Reconstruction process. Reconstruction was oftentimes blamed on carpetbaggers, who were Northerners who moved to the South during the Reconstruction period, or on scalawags, a Southern term for white Southern Republicans (education. Mom, 2013). Amidst these developments, public schools systems were implemented. Also, the establishment implemented anti-discrimination measures, strengthened rights of agricultural workers and Infrastructure improved. With these turning points, the impact on Americans current society, economy, politics, and culture can be analyzed in many different ways. One could say that without the institution of programs such as The Freedmans Bureau, Blacks would have not had the opportunity to receive education until the late asss or beyond. I believe that without the ratification f the Fifteenth Amendment, black population would not have stood a chance and it would be a black persons hell in todays society.Without the Reconstruction Period, the economy would have rebounded by some type of measure. The U. S did have contributions to the infrastructure through others in the North. Surely the South would have made some adjusting somehow. In an article published in American History Journal, Eric r-owner wrote that Lincoln assassination actually made little difference to the course of Reconstruction. Lincoln, these historians believed, had long been at odds with he Radical Republicans, who would have treated him much as they did Andrew Johnson had Lincoln refused to go along with their plans. They would have forced their own plan of Reconstruction through Congress. Overridden any vetoes, and tried to remove Lincoln from office through impeachment, just as they attempted with Johnson in 1868. Mr. . Fonder goes on to State that it is impossible to imagine Lincoln, had he lived, becoming so alienated from Congress, the Republican Party, and the northern public as to be impeached and almost removed from office. Nor does it seem likely that he would have enunciated a policy and then stuck to it in the face of self-evident failure.Lincoln had grown enormously during the Civil War, and his ideas would undoubtedly have continued to evolve during Reconstruction. Even if, like Johnson, he had set in motion the establishment of all- the South in 1865, he undoubtedly would have listened carefully to complaints about the Black Codes and been willing to heed the outcry in the North for further guarantees of the rights of former slaves. (Fonder E, 2009) Many southerners saw Reconstruction as an attempt by the north to punish the south, rather than n attempt to rebuild the nation. This period was marked by intense bitterness and anger. Regional and racial pressure remained powerful. The UK Klux Klan came into full force, terrorizing blacks by tactics such as night riding. Poll taxes forced an unreasonable fee on blacks at the voting booth. During Reconstruction, the northern economy experienced a tremendous industrial boom, while the South struggled through Reconstruction. Immigrants began pouring into northern cities and provided a cheap labor source for Northern Industry. The south remained primarily agricultural.Industrialization had both negative effects and positive effects on city life. While big businesses thrived, the gap between the rich and poor grew larger day by day. Progressive reformers sought to close this gap and bring together the nation. Industrialization was very beneficial to American business owners. Following the civil war, industries transformed into modern powerhouses. Big business owners who seized power in these industries became even bigger. New inventions led to new thriving industries. Iron, for example, was replaced with ultra-strong steel. Andrew Carnegie built the biggest steel business in the world. One main reason why steel was in such demand was due to the expansion of railroads. Before steel, railroads ran on weak iron, which would crack and brake. By 1900, Carnegie Steel earned a whopping $40 million a year. Carnegie believed that big businesses such as this actually improved the overall wellbeing of the nation- rich and poor. The Black Codes were laws in the United States passed after the Civil War with the effect of limiting the civil rights and civil liberties of blacks.Even though scarification laws against blacks existed in both Northern and Southern states from the early 19th century, the term Black Codes is used most often to refer to legislation passed by Southern states at the end of the Civil War to control the labor and movement of newly-freed slaves. The Supreme Court set the stage for Jim Crow laws by several of its decisions. The Court held that the Civil Rights Act of 1 875 was unconstitutional and ruled that the Fourteenth Amendment did not prohibit individuals and private organizations from discriminating on the basis of race. Post Civil War free essay sample During the 1 asss, segregation took place. Segregation was a period when there was a difference in the treatment of race. Things like education and living were affected. After the civil war this issue was to be changed. This period was called the reconstruction period. The main focus here was to ensure the freed slaves remained free. The thing that got the slave free was the Emancipation Proclamation. This was created by Abraham Lincoln in 1863. It didnt fully free all slaves until around December 1 865 (newworldencyclopedia. Org). This act is largely moored in the south, particularly after 1 877 when the last federal troops of the military occupation are withdrawn. The experiment in radical reconstruction is over. Democrats regain control of every southern state government. Far from the Republicans, establishing a strong presence in the region, the south becomes an area of one-party politics until the second half of the 20th century (historically. We will write a custom essay sample on Post Civil War or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Net). The federal troops being withdrawn mean that things were now safe. With the war being won by the Union, the south was now headed towards a new future. Things were just starting to get settled.By settled, this means the struggle was becoming at ease. With the democrats regaining control of the southern states, this would mean good things were about to begin for these states. The reconstruction was nearing end. While discussing segregation; the Civil Right Act of 1 866 was passed. According to the website lucre. Lb. UNC. Du, on April 9th, 1866-?146 years ago today-?Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1 866, granting full citizenship and the accompanying rights to all citizens, of every race and color, without Edgar to any previous condition of slavery or involuntary servitude. This gave the same rights to both races, giving ease to the African Americans who suffered most during the period before the civil war. At least during the growing pains decade, there was something accomplished. Segregation was brought to an end and there was equality with the races. Not all things were totally equal, but there was now more things offered to African Americans. Next, the most important thing is reconstruction. Reconstruction was the time when everyone had to adjust to the changes going on after the civil war. Whites had to find new ways of getting their work done since now they didnt have farmers or workers.Blacks had to find new ways for making money. In some cases, blacks remained working for the whites but only in means of providing for their families. This reconstruction period wasnt an easy process there was much work to be done. Starting fresh with slavery put behind them, blacks had to start from the bottom, working their way up. Whites now had to get out and work. This period was a difficult one for both in the economy. One struggle getting the work done while the other struggle to find ark after knowing only how to work on plantations and farms. There was some success for the blacks, like finding work and even getting into office. According to Britannica. Com, Though the period has sometimes been labeled Black Reconstruction, the Radical governments in the South were never dominated by African Americans. There were no black governors, only two black senators and a handful of congressmen, and only one legislature controlled by blacks. This period should be labeled as the black reconstruction because they started from nothing and had to work their way p. This was a new beginning for them. They had to catch up and claim their position within the society. Having always worked for someone not really doing for themselves, they had to be reconstructed as well not only did America. Segregation and reconstruction had a huge affect on the current society, economy, politics, and culture. In todays current society, experiencing segregation and the reconstruction made things smoother. By smoother, the society has become not been as racial divided as normal. Equality has begun to get better in a sense. Equality in education, jobs, housing voting, has all been made law.In this day and age, laws are now protecting people. Though its not totally fixed, because of the Post Civil War time period it made certain things easier for African Americans. More people can do things they couldnt from back then. Whites and Blacks both get alone. The economy because Of that era has had its ups and downs. The people had to start over fresh. The people lost their workers or gained a new place in role in economy. Farmers had to find a whole new crew or either plant their own crops. Now the economy is at an k state. More jobs are offered.Laws were created to protect the people. Money or pay on the jobs increased. The military haven t had many real issues since then. Politically, there has been changed within the system. More African Americans have jobs in politics. The politics just like the world as a whole is changing and still needs certain improvements but this era helped out as for as rights. Culturally, the world has also had improvements. Every culture has the freedom to do just about anything they please. All in all, this era helped improve many parts of America.Even though we have certain issues that we still face, this time period helped get major issues handled. Segregation and the reconstruction were what the country needed at the time. Migrating from having workers to working for yourself was a big transition for the people; blacks working for nothing to working for something was also a major change for them. The Growing Pains period wasnt just a period of complete satisfaction. With every change there are ups and downs. Nothing was a for sure thing so the development and construction took time.

Historical Truth Essays - Reality, Political Philosophy, Free Essays
Historical Truth Essays - Reality, Political Philosophy, Free Essays Historical Truth All of human history is a collaboration of truth. In it, emotion and rationality fight each other in a bitter struggle for supremacy. The outcome remains in doubt still to this day, however, as evidence of both individual and institutional involve- ment contribute towards this subtle yet potent friction. Institutions are the founda- tion of the house of social order while individuals roam free throughout the house itself. History teaches us that humanity grows and becomes strengthened by diver- sity and a common understanding of the dangers of indifference. Truth, which is the essence of human history is often manipulated to serve individual interests for the achievement of social goals on a scale monestrous to most people. Truth then becomes a controlled element in an experiment involving all of society instead of the environment in which the experiment would take place. Once manipulated, the es- sence of this 'truth' is forever changed and what we once thought of as 'truth' now only becomes data supporting claims unverifiable in a personal or historical context. The danger to society only becomes apparent when the conundrum of decep- tion falls apart in light of the human ability to see order in a universe of constructed chaos. It is the individual practice of curious introspection through innate deduc- tive and inductive reasoning fueled by the passionate need to seek a harmony with oneself and the world one inhabits (truth) that saves us from complete social de- struction. Individually, the manipulation of truth affects each of us daily on scales both small and large. Social institutions can operate on timetables and charters which maneuver truth for self-interest while at the same time masking it under the guise of 'progress'. The point at which this personalization of historical interpretation be- comes destructive to the integrity of historical order, however, is subtle. Signs and symptoms of the massaging of history for individual gain litter the timestream of human evolution, but we would be hard pressed to find evidence of this in the present without the beneficial power of historical hindsight. The present signifi- cance of individual involvement in the scope of human history is impressively diffi- cult to determine, yet the consequences of indifference to this matter would lead to the eventual end of us all. After examining these claims it becomes painfully clear that we must seek to preserve the altruistic nature of our species in spite of existing in a world of self-interest and gain through individual and institutional deceit. This battle can be fought with the weapons given to us at birth: human reason (logic), compassion for all life (love), and the ability to create (free will). A response born from the in- stinctive enmity towards social indifference will also act as a shield to protect us from the casual acceptance of any 'fact' disguised as truth. And while this aware- ness grows with experience, a knowledge of the past will safeguard us against the perils of the present and future. Hope remains within Pandora's chest. Historical manipulation can be fought. Still, individuals will come to realize that a disregard for truth brought forth from a corrupted ideal of social order will harm them all. Egalitarian methods of social conduct based on a ubiquitous view of human history will provide us with answers to these social and personal dilemmas. Indifference must fall to human nature, for the seeds of civilizational progress lie within us, not widespread destruction. Truth is the essence of human history. We can choose to cherish its generous afflictions or ignore its brazen warnings. We can mold it to benefit our own interests or bend to the burden of altruistic, social order. Such a path requires a will determined to struggle, for it is in the heart of our very nature to make known the unknowable through logic and love, but it is in that struggle for truth which we will achieve our greatest glory for ourselves and all humanity. Preserve the integrity of knowledge and understanding through a continual appreciation of truth and history is saved. Be indifferent to the wisdom of the ages (and present) and all of tomorrow is doomed.

Heat and the Kinetic theory of matter Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Heat and the Kinetic theory of matter - Essay Example From the very basics of what employs the chemical subject, it is imperative that all chemistry students develop a deep understanding of what is the kinetic theory of matter and how it is particularly influenced by changes in the heat and temperature around the substances that are being examined as practical objects. The most understanding decisive factor about understanding all of this is by comprehending the fact of exactly what heat is and how it potentially operates. Heat on with reference to (Encyclopaedia Britannica Educational Corporation. (1989). what is heat?) is the amount of thermal energy that is being possessed by all and every matter established in the universe. To be technically precise the universe as we have come to know is made up of molecules and atoms that are in constant random motion or they fundamentally vibrate about their fixed position causing a stir up in the heat generated or more precisely causing an increase in the thermal energy of their employed surroundings. Thermal energy as being energy is measured in joules and due to the free flowing nature of matter pertaining to the everlasting vibration and motion of atoms and molecules is also passed from one particular body to another and this transfer of thermal energy is known as the exo/endo thermic processes involving the heat transfer of objects. In these cause of events, either endothermic or exothermic there is always a shift in the thermal energy gained or lost by one isolated object to another or vice versa. Generally speaking endothermic and exothermic reactions account on the comparison of heat gained or lost to the surroundings as the environment helps keep one end of the deal at constant r.t.p. (room temperature and pressure) helping in determining which reactions are more active than others. Let us now take a very common example regarding a much general chemistry case that involves either exothermic or endothermic reactions. On significant terms endothermic reactions are rather slow in nature generally than exothermic reactions and hence they ought to have a more time consuming practical approach. Photosynthesis, the using of sunlight in making food for the plant by the plant is an active example of how endothermic reactions occur. Definitive terminology puts endothermic reactions clas sify these as processes in which heat or thermal energy is taken from the surrounds and transferred into the reaction mixture or let us say that thermal energy is gained hence causing a flow in heat from one object to another while decisively in a exothermic reaction such as mixture of sodium chloride to create a salt NaCl is a much faster chemical reaction but in such reactions thermal energy is lost from the reaction mixture into the surrounds i.e. to say that heat, unlike the endothermic reactions, is transferred from the reaction mixture to the surrounds. I personally believe that the study of heat and matter is relatively one of the larger branches of study in the chemistry subject but as so much to this thesis I clearly see that heat and how it is manipulated is been thoroughly achieved through this literature. Moving on to what potentially temperature might be, well temperature on account of Sullivan, N. (2007) is the average heat or thermal energy in a substance. Unlike ther mal energy temperature has more focus on a number
